For the portrait, I’d argue that you followed the rule of thirds well, by placing your parents within the center region. Dad’s head is just within the top right corner, and Mom’s elbow is just within the bottom left. They end up feeling very balanced in the picture. The lines in the background from the building and the power lines also move my eye around a lot. This is a very well done portrait overall.
