An Open Letter to Poetry

Laa dee da dum
Ga Puchi ga puchi gum gum
Dear Poetry and its bum,
What the hell have you done?

I feel like I have no hold,
Can’t stop now or I’ll fold.
Sitting on my bed’s edge;
Like Rudolph pulling Santa’s sledge
I’m typing away, words forming like mould.

It’s all the fault of Rashmi Menon,
Telling me to juice all the lemon.
And while I did make lemonade,
Still through unfamiliar territory I wade.
To me every poem’s like a demon!

It’s also the fault of Vandana Bhasin
Who won those challenges like a queen
Inspired by them I’ll try I thought
For days and nights, I just fought
And now I lay awake, eyes a glossy sheen

Laa dee da dum
Ga Puchi ga puchi gum gum

Do you know the cause of all problem?
The one that creates all the humblum!
An empty mind, coz ’tis the devil’s haven
Where he dances and makes you enslaven.
Just close your eyes and breathe deep
Soar high and feel freed
Busy yourself like a honey bee
Lo and behold, you’re queen of your own destiny!

Laa dee da dum
Ga Puchi ga puchi gum gum

And no matter what you do
If you still feel like the cows who moo
Just close your eyes and breathe deep
Soar high and feel freed
Or else just sing away like you know who!

Finally I write to thee
Hoping you’ll help me
From keeping my eyes wide open
At dusk it starts, until dawn’s broken
And then I end up looking like a zombie

Hence, Dear Poetry,
I try to break from thee
Fly high and feel free
Only if you would let me
Until then I write in the hours of wee.

Dear Readers, on my behalf will you plead for mercy
Ask the two limerick queens not to kill me!

I loved the humor you brought into Poetry, after all, limericks are all about humor and satire! Looks like we have a new limerick queen 😉
