30 May A Godsend for Bibliophiles: Books Barter

The best part about being in a community of active readers is that you keep getting introduced to new authors and books you didn’t previously know about.

Early last year, I attended a fun event organised by an innovative start-up, Let’s Barter, where I met lots of new people, played some fun games, and exchanged books with fellow bibliophiles! I got quite a few great books, like Eat Pray Love, and some brand new releases from Harper Collins (they had sponsored a few books).

I think around the same time I was battling with that Great Book Flood too. I am yet to get through my loot from such events and book sales but since I have lost the battle against these unseen (and very welcome) forces I have decided to give up the fight altogether. Which means the reformed reader in me is now hoarding books like never before!

Soon a time would come where I may not need a new shelf for more books but an entire cupboard. Is it allowed to raid banks only to build bookshelves?

Anyway, I digress. The purpose of this post is to share my excitement over another such book exchange event that’s scheduled for this weekend.

Organised by the same people who had done it last year (Bless their bookish souls!), the added element kicking the fun factor up several notches is that everyone would be having blindfolds on.

So that means, not just meeting and conversing with strangers, but doing it blindfolded! Talk about shedding inhibitions and not letting prejudices colour your opinions. It sounds scary and exciting at the same time, doesn’t it?

Being a staunch advocate for not judging people too soon, and certainly not for their appearances, this event is a must-attend for me. A huge pile of books to exchange has already been set aside. I hope to get some great new reads and meet some great new people. Who knows, the elusive Mr. Perfect may just choose to show up. Wouldn’t that be cool?
