Story Continuation Challenge Prompt 4

Once again, thank you to all of you for participating in the previous week’s challenge.

I loved reading your stories, and it amazes me each time to see such amazing story-telling in such few lines.

Last week’s prompt was as random as it could be and yet the responses were inspiring and creative.

My personal favorite was Luke’s although I hate having to deal with a dead mouse.
The story liked most was the poem written by Sandra. If you haven’t already read her Friday Fiction, do so now. 🙂 (Caution: Proceed only if you are 18+ 😉 )

This week’s prompt is –

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it.

Challenge Rules –

  • Please complete the story in a maximum of 3 sentences (the first line is the prompt, so you have the freedom to write either 1 or 2 lines more.)
  • Stories need to be shared in the comments section of that prompt’s post so that everybody can read them at one place.
  • If you feel inspired to write a longer story, please feel free to write it on your own blog with a ping-back to the respective prompt.
  • If a comment or story written by another blogger inspires you to write one of your own, please remember to thank them.
  • Creativity rules. The story could be told in a rhyming poem, free verse or prose. It could be funny, dark, thought-provoking or even a true incident retold creatively.
  • The Challenge will run from Tuesday to Sunday.
  • Most creative stories shall get a special mention in next week’s challenge.
  • The main purpose of this challenge is to have fun and learn. Those who are able to mentor and help others grow in their writing; you are encouraged to do so. All constructive feedback should be communicated in a kind and helpful manner AND received in a welcoming manner.
  • Please do read other stories and visit their blogs or give them feedback here. Each one of us is here to showcase our writing to others. Give first what you want in return.
  • If you are interested in participating in the challenge, please follow the blog to receive the prompts via email.

Prompt 4 Rules –

  • (You’re already following this rule, far better than I can imagine.) As before,  remember to go off the beaten track. Think out-of-the-box.
  • There has to be some reference to a new beginning, of any kind.

This prompt is open till Monday, April 4th, 2016. Please remember to submit your stories in the comments before then.

My story is –

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it.
Now that the downpour had ceased, life could begin.

Look forward to being blown away with your stories again.

Aww, I’m touched that people liked my little poem. Thanks everyone!

    Here’s my new story —

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. Her ashes drifting away, he clutched the sacred box, dreading his new life without her.

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. Kayla knew this peaceful moment was only temporary so she basked in it as long as possible. Shortly, she would lead a path to death and destruction.

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. Hunched over the table, her heart ached as her friend spoke up, “I won’t let you steal his heart away from me”
Looking at their reflection in the pool of liquid love on the floor, she breathed the words
“Is that why you pierced mine?”

    Here’s mine

Looking at the river flow, he could hear her voice so clear, her tinkling laughter
He had never felt so alone.

That tear don’t deceive me. You don’t have a heart in that soul that wanders.

With that story, the worst of the heartless wanderers would tear up 🙂 Loved it.

Hey Lady ! I missed one in the series 🙁 And I love these challenge , not that am writer but for the sheer fun of doing it. It is engaging to read all comments .Now today your lines remind me of Friday horror movie nights .

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. With thumping heart , I shut my eyes , hands tight around his wrist ,waited for the screams, asking “Is it gone?” when he guffawed “I cannot decide what is more fun to watch – you or the stupid horror movie on TV !”
I wish I had more courage – to watch horror as well as to kick his ass for making fun of me!
Friday nights are no more horror nights!

Now it is your time to perfect it 😀 ..plsss!

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. Marc knew he hadn’t just lost a deal but also a chance of realizing his dream of providing electricity, communication and water supply to his village. But he believed that new doors will soon open as the sun never fails to rise every morning, the same way as it never forgets to set each night!!

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it.

Death had come in the blackness of that night and he walked with his scythe taking his time, drawing out the spirits of the dying as he entered each house; too many died in the darkness that night, too many whose time ended all too soon, but we do not get to choose when the Grim comes to ferry us home; our time is chosen in advance long before we are even an inkling in the Creator’s eye.

The darkness had been so utter and complete that evening because of the savagery that took place in the day, war had torn apart the city; the armies of the invader had been reckless and without cause for ‘just’ war as they murdered each and every resident of the city in sight, raping and pillaging as the armies of old; as those near death suffered in the night from the brutality of their wounds, the Grim was a welcome friend as he drew their souls to his scythe.

Those people Death left behind, saw only the cruelty of the darkness and the bone-rattling footsteps of the Grim; but those whose time had come had seen only relief in Death’s coming, they had felt liberty from their decaying bodies, for behind the work of the Grim, those dying had seen the work of God the Creator, the greater good; He had been calling them home to paradise and eternity where there was no pain, no mourning, no death, only heavenly bliss.

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. The crew knew it was an omen but the captain didn’t care. They unfurled the rigging and set sail into the unknown. Leaving their old lives behind and, hopefully, starting new ones.

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. They will come back for me but I ain’t scared anymore because I have got nothing to lose. As I hold your lifeless body in my arms, I pledge to avenge your death, my love.

Brilliant!! Tragic and bad-ass, all in one. Love it. This has a lot of back-story. Not to mention the potential of a future story. Piques the interest of the reader.
Who are they? How and why did he die? What happens in the future? Is his death justified? Was she able to exact her revenge? Is vengeance the only answer? In my mind, I took him to be a warrior prince who dies a premature death in battle, and the lady is the queen mother who laments the death of a little boy but will not spare the perpetrators. Yeah, I am over-imaginative! 😀 😀
But, you definitely should think about this one and develop it into a longer story. Would love to read it.

Oh thank you very much. Reading your comment, I got this sudden urge to develop this 3-liner into a story. Will do it soon and would love your insight on it.

As the sun set over the horizon, a deathly stillness descended with it. I saw one of the men quickly make the Sign of the Cross over his chest…but I smiled to myself as I recalled my Grandfather’s words about an old sailor’s blessing as had been told to him by his First Mate as he set sail for his first working voyage: “Red sun at night, sailor’s delight. Red sun at morning, Sailor take warning!” That saying always had given me great comfort as my ship set sail off into the proverbial sunset.
